Mary K. Baxter co-founded Dramatic Adventure Theatre in 2006, only months after completing her BA in Communications from Concord University where she studied Public Relations and Theatre. While participating in the theatre program at Concord, Mary was an active member and later the President of her schools chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a National Honors Theatre Fraternity. She helped her chapter with many community service projects including programs to help raise money for local charities such as victims of domestic violence, aids victims, and sexual assault awareness, as well as programs designed to promote appreciation for the visual and fine arts divisions at her university. Mary has worked as an actor for such companies as Summit Theatre in Bluefield, WV, Texas Legacies in Canyon, TX, Run of the Mill Theater and Downstage Productions both in Baltimore, MD, as well as DAT, and aWe Creative Group in New York City. Her credits include Cinderella, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Night of January 16th, Under Milk Wood, Oleanna, Sylvia, Antigone, Sex without Pliers, Flora and Fauna, and Variations on Fear, which was named Best Production of the year, 2006 by The Baltimore City Paper and Outstanding Experimental Production 2006 by The Greater Baltimore Theatre Awards.

Since DAT’s start in 2006, Mary has played a key role in the day-to-day operations as well as holding the position of Production Manager while acting and traveling through Zimbabwe during the workshop process for the original work,Voices from Zimbabwe in the summer of 2007 and again for Flight 360, the first Ecuador Project, in the summer of 2008. In 2009 and 2010, she produced ACTion: Ecuador which brought 100 theatre artists to Ecuador. She was instrumental in the planning and execution of DAT’s Teaching Artist Residency, which began by sending 3 teachers to Esmeraldas, Ecuador for 5 weeks in the Spring of 2011. Mary K is also a published author, collaborating with 44 women to create the book, Concious Choices: an Evolutionary Woman’s Guide to Life.

Mary studied Arts Management at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst and served as the PACT Program Coordinator at Free Arts NYC for 4 years.

In 2019, she became the Deputy Director of the Howard County Arts Council bringing her passion and expertise to connecting community and artists.

She is currently living in Baltimore with her husband and six year old daughter.
